of the current reserve

Our Vision
An additional 2000 hectares of forests and pasture lands surround the immediate borders of the existing reserve. Our vision is to include these areas under the protection of the reserve in the near future.

The founders of the Karen Mogensen Nature Reserve have seeded and incubated a phenomenal blueprint in this project and now the time has come to roll this out, growing from the core, upscaling the vision to expand the protected area of the Nature Reserve ecosystem, allowing space for the forest to naturally regenerate and increase in size.
While the forest inside the Karen Mogensen Reserve is protected, there still remain many threats for the wildlife and ecosystems outside of the Nature Reserve on the Nicoya Peninsula. Every year a large area of private land is (often illegally) deforested for different reasons:
Clearing private land for development
Logging for supply in the timber market
Clearing forest for mono-crop teak farms (an exotic species)
Clearing forest for cattle farming
Acquiring the parcels we have identified will help protect those pieces from all of the above.
We have a great track record.
Since the 1970's we have already tripled the size of the reserve.
You can help us do it again.
