Karen Mogensen Reserve
Wildlife Refuge
Mission
"Asepaleco" stands for Asociación Ecológica Paquera Lepanto Cóbano or the Association of Ecology (of the towns of) Paquera, Lepanto, and Cobano. It was founded in 1991 providing programs and services, one project being the Karen Mogensen Reserve. Asepaleco has managed The Reserve since its founding in 1996.
The Association of Asepaleco is a Costa Rican nonprofit and NGO, formed of 60 active members, who gather for a general assembly once a year. The Board of Directors is elected every two years, consisting of 9 members and 1 fiscal.
The Karen Mogensen Reserve is soon to be an official wildlife refuge recognized by the Costa Rican government.
The mission of Asepaleco is to protect and preserve the natural ecosystems of the forests of the Nicoya Peninsula, including the water sources and wildlife upon which all life depends while educating the public and involving local communities.
We consider it an honor to be the stewards of such an important conservation project, contributing to a better future.
